PVC & Vinyl Free wallpaper materials

Most of our wallpapers are completely PVC and vinyl free*, offering a safer, more natural alternative. The materials used for our Peel and Stick Eco Matte and Grasscloth wallpapers is FSC certified, sourced only from responsibly managed forests. Using digital printing technology, we bring each design to life with precision and minimal waste. Our made-to-order approach reduces overproduction and provides personalized service, tailoring each wallpaper to our customer's needs. Handcrafting is central to our operations, with each piece reflecting our team's care and passion. We use GreenGuard Gold-certified inks and environmentally-safe methods, ensuring no harmful chemicals are released during production or disposal.

Mostly all of our products are crafted from PVC-free material ensuring maximum sustainability. Livette's Wallpaper has always avoided PVC (polyvinyl chloride) materials. Out of 11 materials Livette's Wallpaper currently offer, only one contains vinyl and PVC.

Why we at Livette's Wallpaper avoid PVC materials: Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) materials are considered problematic for indoor use because they can release various toxic chemicals throughout their life cycle, degrading indoor air quality and potentially posing health risks. In addition, the entire life cycle of PVC — from energy-intensive manufacturing to difficult disposal all of which contributes to significant environmental pollution, including dioxin emissions and microplastic contamination.

Livette's Wallpaper uses materials that comply with regulations and hold certifications such as:

  • FSC & FSC Mix
  • CA 1350 Indoor Air Quality
  • HPD – Health Product Declaration
  • EPD – Environmental Product Declaration
  • REACH compliant
  • RoHS compliant
  • Low VOC
  • We offer products that are safe for sensitive indoor environments such as schools, hospitals, retail spaces, and children’s rooms.
  • We use printers that are GREENGUARD Gold certified (Epson SureColor and Canon Colorado printers).
  • 10 of the 11 materials we offer are vinyl- and PVC-free, so they are suitable for sensitive spaces such as kids’ rooms, schools, and hospitals.

Important to know: Wallpaper cannot be recycled after glue/paste is applied to the material. Even before use, only wallpapers made from pure paper substrate can be recycled, which the industry generally does not use due to its poor performance properties.

Because of this, Livette's Wallpaper has developed other ways to improve recycling and reduce waste:

  • Made-to-order production
    All wallpaper is made to order. The majority of wallpaper companies produce large quantities of collections in bulk because it is more cost effective from a production point of view. However, this often results in a lot of waste, as large quantities of these collections become outdated and are discarded. Livette's Wallpaper was one of the first wallpaper companies to work at scale while producing only after the customer has placed an order. In this way, Livette's Wallpaper reduces unnecessary waste from overproduction.
  • Recyclable product packaging
    Since 2014, Livette's Wallpaper has used recyclable product packaging. We use only cardboard packaging that can be recycled after use. In addition, our goal has always been to design aesthetic packaging that customers would keep and reuse for other purposes.
  • Shipping packaging
    From the beginning, Livette's Wallpaper has used only cardboard shipping packaging and paper tape.
  • Eco Commercial Type II wallpaper material
    We have recently introduced a material made from 15% post-consumer recycled content. This material has all required Type II wallcovering properties, benefits, and certifications, so it can be used in commercial projects.
  • Recycling production waste
    Since 2020, Livette's Wallpaper has sorted production waste so that recyclable materials can be separated. In addition to that, we donate all faulty or leftover products to children's schools and kindergartens arts and collage classes for aspiring new artists and their artistic creations.
  • Since 2024, Livette's Wallpaper has replaced 2 out of 3 combustion engine vehicles with electric vehicles.
  • Located in an energy efficient renovated premises, daily operations of Livette's Wallpaper require less energy for heating or cooling as well as artifical lighting thanks to smart maximizing of natural light.
  • Livette's Wallpaper chooses partners with similar environmental values. For example, at least 90% of our deliveries are made by FedEx, whose goal is to achieve carbon-neutral operations by 2040.
  • Livette's Wallpaper works with material suppliers who support sustainability by offering materials with certifications such as FSC Mix.
  • In 2024, one third of our Epson eco-solvent printers were replaced with Canon UV-Gel ink printers. UV-Gel inks contain even less VOC than eco-solvent inks.

Replace all eco-solvent printers with HP Latex Ink or Canon UV-Gel Ink printers to minimize VOC emissions as much as possible.

Give back to nature

Collaborating with local reforestation management initiatives, plant 1,000 trees per year, reaching a total of 4,000 trees planted by 2030. All products are produced locally here in Latvia — one of the most forest rich countries in the world.
