The Modern Victorian Wallpaper Collection

Modern victorian floral wallpaper and coral color chairWallpaper trends this year tend to be more eclectic and maximalism themed. So it’s a very good time to introduce some sumptuous Victorian style elements in your home interior and go for that modern granny chic look. We combined some features from the lush Victorian era with more modern touches and created the Modern Victorian Wallpaper Collection.

The idea behind Modern Victorian style is to take some opulent elements from Victorian era and combine them with the contemporary. Before putting together this collection, we studied and listed the main features and themes seen in both these styles and specifically in wall decor.

WHAT DISTINGUISHES VICTORIAN AND MODERN WALL COVERINGS?

Main characteristics of Victorian style wall coverings are bold and highly detailed floral, leaf, bird, animal patterns and scenes inspired from Gothic, Rococo and Eastern styles. Dark, rich colours like crimson red and emerald green were the main colour choice, combined with neutral and tan tones.
Modern wallpapers on the other hand tend to be more minimalistic, clean and rather simple. Patterns include geometric shapes and lines, abstract figures and stylised botanical motifs. Modern wall coverings tend to be kept as light in colour as possible, but often neutral colours, tans and greys are introduced in wall decor. Also black and white combo wallpaper works very well in a modern interior.

It was very interesting to try and merge these two very contrasting styles. We wanted to include those classic realistic and hand drawn floral motifs for a vintage chic feel and also freshen them up with a more sleek and graphic look. If botanical theme is not what you are looking for, you’ll find many bold and vibrant geometric designs in this collection as well . Colour palette involves modern black and white mix, and luxurious greens, reds and blues.Bold and modern black and white plaid and malachite pattern wallpapers

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT WALLPAPER DESIGN?

When introducing Modern Victorian style in your interior, you want to keep in mind to use either very bold wallpaper and keep the furnishings and decor rather simple or use a minimalistic wall covering and make the rest of the interior really stand out, so that there is a balance and the interior doesn’t become overwhelming like classic Victorian style can. Also we would suggest to use not more than two accent colours and use different tones of those two colours - this will make your interior well put together and not too assorted.
